Inquiry, Aimee Liu 2020

Hi Everyone,

After several weeks of creative throat-clearing and political distraction, MFA Lore is finally delivering the first post in what I hope will be a useful mid-week series for you. Please DO let me know in your comments if you like this idea.

Every Wednesday for paid subscribers, I’m going to offer a master’s Craft Quote that I think captures an essential bit of writing insight, plus a Creative Quote from another master that exemplifies the theme, as well as a resonating visual or two from my own Instagram archives.

This will be a game for me, not unlike the one-word name game I play with my Instagram images. I’m going to treat it as a fun diversion that also reminds me why and how creativity is generative. I hope you’ll agree!

So here goes. Our master advisors for the week are Vivian Gornick and Michael Ondaatje.

The Memoirist’s Persona

The quote below is from Vivian Gornick’s classic craft text, The Situation and the Story, which you are more than welcome to buy at my Bookshop HERE.

[Bold-faced sections are insights that I personally find invaluable.]
